Hello Filipa, Its fodder fava beans. They are used for feeding animals and are a lot smaller then the ones for consumption. You can buy them at the local cooperativa or other agricultural shops. They are relatively cheep.

I got a bit confused about the chop and drop with beans and I was sent to here.
It´s a bit odd to me to chop and drop beans before seeding cause I feel like is a waste of food. Well same with other vegetables.
I totally get the chop and drop, I´ve read the Fukuoka books and… I get the nitrogen-fixing plants, the biomass constructors, the mulch plants, the soil builders etc… but…
the planting and chop before harvest seems… a waste.
Can you help me understand that…

Dank je voor je reacties. Tom heeft me wel eens over jullie verteld. Hielden jullie geen beesten?
Ik ben in mijn tiener jaren ook nog eens on Yogyakarta geweest,ik vond het daar erg mooi.
Wat leuk dat je rond bent wezen reizen in de VS en in Europa om leefgemeenschappen te bezoeken. Misschien vind je het leuk om een keer iets dat je geschreven hebt op te sturen.
We hebben het hier wel overwogen om mensen bij het werk op de boerderij te betrekken en ook wel mensen hier gehad voor een tijdje. Het werk is best zwaar en daar knapten de mensen die hier waren wel op af. Er is echt een hoop commitment nodig. We merken ook dat mensen vaak liever hun eigen ding willen beginne in plaats dat ze zich ergens bij aansluiten. Het lijkt een beetje een trend. Onze collages homesteaders in de buurt die op zoek zijn naar mensen die bij hun willen wonen merken het ook.
Een ander ding wat het niet makkelijk maakt om de Homestead te verbreden naar meer mensen is dat het op dit moment niet zo makkelijk is om op het land bij te bouwen.
Maar je weet natuurlijk nooit misschien lukt het nog wel een keertje.

Ik volg jullie blogs al een tijdje. Altijd leuk en interessant om te lezen.

Leven op het land is altijd een interesse van me geweest maar ja het leven leidt je vaak heel anders dan je gepland had. Ik heb nu een Indonesische vrouw (en 2 jongens) en woon in Yogyakarta. Maar wie weet…

Ik reageer eigenlijk op de blog: “Starting a homestead in a remote area.” Ik ben heel lang geïnteresseerd geweest in wat de ideale manier van wonen/leven is en kwam al snel via het stamverband op de ‘Land Based Community’. Ik ben daarom in 1988 met mijn vriendin Heleen 10 maanden in de VS geweest en we hebben 17 (voornamelijk) landelijke leefgemeenschappen bezocht en er soms weken gewoond/gelogeerd. Later heb ik er ook nog een paar in Europa bezocht. Over elk van die leefgemeenschappen heb ik een artikel geschreven (meer dan 20 dus) en heb ik ooit willen uitgeven. Maar de interesse daarin is beperkt tot een heel kleine groep dus geen uitgever…

Terug naar de blog: bij elke overweging van Monique in die bewuste blog moest ik denken: dat probleem is automatisch opgelost als je met een groep (10 tot 150 mensen) woont. Je kunt dan heel veel dingen voor elkaar opvangen. Probleem is echter altijd dat het dan wel moet klikken met die andere mensen. En dat hangt weer samen met hoe je zo’n groep opzet en wat de doelstellingen van die groep zijn.

Mijn vraag is daarom: hebben jullie daar ooit over nagedacht of het zelfs geprobeerd? Dus om met meerdere mensen jullie homestead uit te bouwen?
